5 Questions for ‘90210′ star Michael Steger
I was a fair-weather fan when it came to “90210″ last year. It had good ideas, but nothing that made me rush home at 8 p.m. to watch it live. Or play first on my Tivo. Or sometimes at all. But that has all changed with a revamped season two. Not only have the characters transformed into believable people and the plots become infinitely more intriguing, but the show has morphed into a must-watch!
Standing smackdab at the center of the rejiggered series is Michael Steger’s Navid. In addition to running The Blaze newspaper, he’s one point in nine-oh’s most potential devastating love triangle. He revealed where Navid and Adrianna are heading as well as what he’s got in store for the season finale!
PopWrap: This season has totally rehooked me — what’s the vibe on set?
Michael Steger: It’s a whole new show. It’s amazing how they changed so much, so fast. We’re lucky the CW gave it another chance because Rebecca [Rand Kirshner, the new show runner] rebuilt it from scratch. She’s made it very community based. We can express our ideas and see them incorporated into the characters.
PW: Did you have anything to do with Navid getting a Lamborghini?
Michael: It’s funny, Tristan [Wilds, who plays Dixon] and I planted that seed. We kept saying, “We want a Lambo” in interviews just to play around. And we got it — I’m aiming for a skydiving trip in the season finale now.
PW: Navid has really come into the spotlight this year because of his relationship with Adrianna. Where will that go in the next few episodes?
Michael: We have a really bad falling out in the next episode and it throws everything into a frenzy. We both profoundly change after a friend confides in me and tells me exactly what happened [when Adrianna kissed Teddy]. After I find out what she’s been doing behind my back, it devastates me because we just made love for the first time and I realize that it was basically pity sex.
PW: Will we see him mixing it up with any of West Beverly’s other ladies?
Michael: It’s hard to say because he’s got such great friendships with all of them. I don’t see him with any of them really. Maybe we can bring in some guest stars for Navid to get with. I think he’d go outside the circle of friends to build a new relationship. He has a habit of wanting to start over a lot, especially this season.
PW: Maybe a new recruit at The Blaze would be good?
Michael: Yeah, right now Rumer Willis is playing my assistant at the paper, which is fun. That newsroom has become like Central Perk. Everyone’s always in and out of that room both on and off camera since there’s a pool table in there, TVs, couches — it’s very loungey. All we’re missing is an espresso machine!
