’90210′: ‘Undercovers’ Mekia Cox returns to shake up Dixon’s world

When we heard that Mekia Cox had been cast to replace Jessica Parker Kennedy in NBC’s buzzed-about new series, “Undercovers,” we felt we knew her from somewhere… and we did. She played Sasha, Dixon’s older, crazy girlfriend last season on “90210.”

Dixon probably thought he was rid of her after finding out that she was faking her pregnancy and he kicked her to the curb, but now Zap2it exclusively learns that Sasha and all her crazy will be back.

A CW spokesperson confirms that Cox will reprise her role as Sasha in Season 3 and she’ll be rocking Dixon’s (Tristan Wilds) world.

When we last saw the deejay, Sasha donned those pretty loud eighties-inspired shirts and big earrings. When we see her next in the episode airing October 4, Sasha will have taken on a more sophisticated look and she’s back to deliver some shocking news to Dixon.

What wrench do you think Sasha will throw into Dixon’s story line?

’90210′: Jessica Lowndes passes the ‘baby baton’ to Ryan Eggold

We actually spent “9.02.10 Day” with a couple of our fave actors from The CW’s “90210″! Jessica Lowndes and Ryan Eggold, who play Adrianna and Mr. Ryan Matthews, chatted with us right after their interview on the KTLA News Morning Show!

Of course, we had to start off with the big earthquake in the Season 3 premiere, in which Matt Lanter (who plays Liam) told us someone wasn’t going to escape unscathed.

“It definitely shakes things up metaphorically,” Lowndes tells Zap2it, then adds, “There’s definitely someone that doesn’t get out of it doing too well.”

Lowndes tells us that when we meet up with Ade, she has dropped out of school to continue her singing career. And while fans of “Navianna” may be glad to have the couple back together, it doesn’t sound like smooth sailing for them.

“I think it’s definitely hard, because she’s no longer at West Bev,” she says. “She’s trying to pursue this thing and I think she ultimately falls in love with the idea of being famous.”

The actress tells us that Ade will make some bad decisions that might not score points with the fans. “I hope that people still love her by the end of it and will see her heart,” Lowndes says.

And as for Mr. Matthews, he’ll be dealing with a whole new drama as Jen’s baby-daddy. “It’s all about the baby for me right now, which is really cool,” Eggold tells us.

Lowndes, whose character has had her own set of baby problems, says she’s passing the “baby baton” to Eggold.

“Jen is back in style as her wonderful, awful, yet endearing self,” he says. “And we’re sort of stumbling through adulthood trying to figure out how to raise a child, completely overwhelmed.”

A couple other things the stars told us made us very happy. Remember that hilarious scene with a drunken Mr. Matthews? Lowndes and Eggold tell us they had some problems with seagulls loving him a little too much!

And for the fans who have been waiting for Lowndes’ album, she’s still recording for it, but she’ll have a single out with a UK hip hop artist dropping on October 25, so look out for that!

With Annie and Naomi both having other storylines, is Liam going to get lost in the 90210 mix? —Becca
MICKEY: Liam will have his own troubles, most significantly the lack of a postal address. He gets a job, but quits when he isn’t comfortable with the dress code (or lack thereof). A good Samaritan will then invite him to move into her poolhouse — something that happens with some frequency in Beverly Hills, according to television. So yes, after leaving a job in which he has to take his clothes off, he’ll become a pool boy. Well done, Liam!

Annie and Liam will make an attempt at coupledom after they seek Naomi’s permission. Which we hear she gives them both—although, she’s in a terrible state of mind to be making such rash decisions.

Exclusive Interview: Jessica Lowndes on 90210 Season Three, New Album and More

On 90210, season two concluded with Adrianna heading off for the summer on tour.

In real life, actress Jessica Lowndes will be releasing her own album this fall. It’s a case of reality meeting fiction, and it’s one of the topics Lowndes spoke to TV Fanatic about this week. Excerpts from the interview are below…

You were recording during the show’s break. What can we expect from that?
It’s been incredible. During hiatus I started putting together an album, which is fantastic. I got to record a lot in LA and London and I teamed up with this pop artist from the UK called Ironik. We have a single coming out on October 25 in London, we just shot the music video for that.

Where is Adrianna when the show comes back?
My character is no longer in high school, she’s now touring and doing the rock star thing and is definitely a lot stronger this season. I’ve been singing since I was three; it’s the one thing in Adrianna’s life that I can totally relate to.

Give us some 90210 spoilers for your character this season.
It’s a dream role for any actress. I’ve done the drug stuff, the pregnancy thing, the love triangle, the lesbian affair and now the music. Adrianna’s addicted to the drama, and even when she’s in it, she says she doesn’t want it. If things go smoothly she gets really bored and craves that next hit of exciting or drama. It’s really interesting and its been fun because I feel like she’s growing up.

Lanter hoping for long ’90210′ romance

Matt Lanter has revealed that he would love his 90210 character Liam to have a long romance with Annie.

Speaking to TV Guide, Lanter claimed that Liam and Annie (Shenae Grimes) have always had a connection.

“There’s always been some chemistry between Annie and Liam,” he said. “In the first season finale, he was really flirting with her. Picking on her, yes, but in a flirting way.”

He continued: “She was this good girl, but also had this facade on – Liam was determined to break that down. He was always curious about the real Annie. And I think that’s where it started. Now they’ve bonded over really personal things, so there’s an even deeper emotional connection.”

Lanter also suggested that Annie is better for Liam than Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), saying: “Liam’s relationship with Naomi started out as a physical one and it stayed that way. From what we saw, they never really formed an emotional attachment. But with Liam and Annie we’ve seen it grow. It grew out of friendship.”

However, Lanter admitted that Liam and Annie will face problems in their relationship when Liam’s half-brother Charlie (Evan Ross) arrives.

“[Liam and Annie] get romantic in the first couple of episodes,” he explained. “We share a kiss… [but] it gets very complicated very fast. There will be a love triangle involving Liam, Annie and Liam’s half-brother Charlie.

“Charlie and Liam are estranged. His half-brother hasn’t been in his life so they don’t have a good relationship. Throw a girl into the mix and it’s that much worse.”

The new season of 90210 premieres on September 13 on The CW.

Matt Lanter Reveals Who Will Give Liam a Run For Annie’s Love

When last we saw Liam and Annie, they shared a tender moment on Liam’s hand-built boat before creepy Jasper blew it to smithereens.

Ah, but a little explosion can’t stop love on 90210, Matt Lanter tells TVGuide.com.

Liam (Lanter) has confessed to the coins, Annie (Shenae Grimes) has confessed to the crash, and now there’s nothing to stop things from heating up between them — and soon. (90210 returns Monday, Sept. 13 at 8/7c on the CW.)
“We’ll get romantic in the first couple of episodes. We share a kiss,” Lanter teased during a break from filming a rather hot scene — not involving Annie — from a future episode. (Peek at a paparazzi pic from that day.)

But things won’t stay easy for long. “It gets complicated very fast. There will be a love triangle involving Liam, Annie and Liam’s half-brother Charlie (guest star Evan Ross),” Lanter says.

“Charlie and Liam are estranged,” the actor explains. “His half-brother hasn’t been in his life so they don’t have a good relationship. Throw a girl into the mix and it’s that much worse.”

What does Charlie have that Liam doesn’t? Lanter says Charlie’s older, more educated and — look out, Liam! — into theater. “Annie’s into that,” he says. “They have that connection. They can read plays and Shakespeare together, and that’s something Liam doesn’t have — something more worldly, cultured, maybe.”

Lanter is rooting for Liam and Annie to make it long term. They’re a couple that the actor says he saw coming since Season 1.

“There’s always been some chemistry between Annie and Liam,” he says. “In the first season finale, he was really flirting with her. Picking on her, yes, but in a flirting way. She was this good girl, but also had this façade on — Liam was determined to break that down.  He was always curious about the real Annie. And I think that’s where it started. Now the’ve bonded over really personal things, so there’s an even deeper emotional connection.”

Wait, no love lost for Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord)? Lanter says the two girls are different. “Liam’s relationship with Naomi started out as a physical one and it stayed that way.  From what we saw, they never really formed an emotional attachment. But with Liam and Annie, we’ve seen it grow. It grew out of friendship.”

Having said that, Lanter says, it’s hard to choose a favorite. “I got one foot in both camps, man,” he says, laughing.

Do you think Liam and Annie will make a good couple?

Monica: Hi! Any scoop on 90210?
Michael Steger tells us: “I show up in a Ferrari, I got rid of the Lamborghini, so I am driving a new car to school on the first day.” Jessica Lowndes: “My new character is no longer in high school, she’s touring and singing, so there’s a lot more music, which has been a lot of fun.” And Matt Lanter: “There’s always drama, love triangles, I’ve got a half-brother coming in. There’s a big earthquake that happens in episode one, so it kind of affects everybody, it’s kind of fun.” By the way, Matt stars as the Robert Pattison in the new spoof movie Vampires Suck and jokes about his anticipated reaction from Twilight fans: “I got a couple extra deadbolts on my door just as a precaution, but so far, I haven’t needed ‘em.”

’90210′ Exclusive: The REAL story behind Teddy’s big gay awakening

It went from being the best kept to the worst kept secret in less than a month: 90210‘s Teddy—the moneyed tennis pro played by Trevor Donovan—will tiptoe out of the closet this fall. In the following exclusive interview, exec producer Rebecca Sinclair reveals when she realized Teddy preferred guys over gals, previews his first same-sex romance, and recalls Donovan’s initial reaction upon learning that he’d be playing gay.

Why did you wait a whole season before starting to unravel the story of Teddy’s sexuality?
REBECCA SINCLAIR: [We wanted] to play a coming out story that features a kid we already knew. Instead of his sexuality being the first and defining characteristic, we’ve already gotten a chance to know Teddy before he explores his sexuality. Teddy’s an athlete, he’s a famous guy’s son, he’s blonde and hunky and yes, he also has a sexual orientation and that’s a huge part of his life. In a lot of ways I think that’s more interesting than Teddy is a gay athlete, a gay famous guy’s son and a blonde and hunky gay gentleman.

Did you know Teddy would be gay when he was first introduced?
SINCLAIR: No. We thought he was just a womanizer. But then—and this often happens with characters—we started to wonder about the deeper life of the character. Was he a womanizer, or was he really covering for something?

How will Teddy’s coming out story be different from Adrianna’s?
SINCLAIR: There are obviously an infinite number of ways that teenagers can experience the realization that they are attracted to members of the same sex. And I guess our ultimate goal would be to tell a whole range of stories that depict different facets of the issue of gayness—or non-straightness, you might say. Adrianna’s was a much lighter story. For Adrianna, having bisexual feelings was confusing but it didn’t rattle her too deeply. She realized that for her, gender was less important than the individual in terms of finding someone she wanted to date. Frankly, for Adrianna as long as her significant other dotes on her, tells her she’s amazing, and that her hair looks pretty, she doesn’t care what gender they are. With Teddy, we’re attempting to tell a much more dramatic story about a something that rattles him to his core. Though, thankfully, we live in an age where lots of teens are comfortable with their sexual orientation and are able to come out when they’re in high school or even before, we didn’t want to ignore the reality that for lots of kids the road to self-acceptance for a gay teenager isn’t easy. This is going to be a dramatic, at times painful, but hopefully ultimately cathartic journey for him.
